Who we are
AI Albania is a civic initiative founded in 2023 to guide the responsible development of Artificial Intelligence across Albanian society. We focus on four strategic pillars: AI Literacy, Research & Innovation, Policy & Ethics, and Community Building.
Mission
Rather than chasing tech trends, we aim to build a foundation where students, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and citizens can engage with AI critically and purposefully.
AI Albania operates as a community-driven hub, with a core expert team and a wide network of volunteers, mentors, diaspora talent and partner organizations across Albania, the Western Balkans, and Europe.
Vision
We see Albania as a country where AI helps people solve real problems — in healthcare, agriculture, governance, and education — while respecting human rights and democratic values.

Founder
Dr. Marjana Prifti Skënduli
Founder, AI Albania
Ph.D. in Computer Science · Council of Europe Expert Group on AI & Education · Former OpenAI Red Team & Policy Researcher · ACM-W Global Awards Committee Chair
Marjana Prifti Skënduli received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of New York Tirana and is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Machine Learning at the Università degli studi di Bari Aldo Moro, Italy. She holds the position of Assistant Professor and Director of Graduate Programs at the University of New York Tirana (currently on sabbatical leave). Dr. Skënduli is a member of the Council of Europe Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence and Education, and served as a Red Team Network Member and Policy Researcher at OpenAI. Her research spans Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Quantum Machine Learning, alongside a strong interest in AI applications in Education. In 2023, she founded AI Albania, the country's first center of AI excellence, dedicated to responsible AI and building a sustainable ecosystem through education, collaboration, and research.
Additionally, Dr. Skënduli serves as the Awards Committee Chair for ACM-W Global, where she advocates for the advancement and representation of women in computing.
