A Gentle Intro to Deep Learning
A beginner-friendly session co-supported with Albanians in IT at the Pyramid of Tirana, offering a clear first look at how deep learning powers real-world systems.

On 30 July, AI Albania co supported a beginner friendly session with Albanians in IT at the Pyramid of Tirana, titled “A Gentle Intro to Deep Learning (with Besart).” The 90 minute event gave newcomers a clear first look at how deep learning powers systems that search, see, hear, and interpret text.
Opening the black box of deep learning
The session walked participants through how search engines handle queries and how models like Whisper and CLIP process images, audio, and text. Instead of focusing on buzzwords, the talk broke down core ideas behind neural networks and showed where these methods appear in tools you use every day.
The goal was simple. Help curious learners understand what sits behind modern AI systems so they can move from passive users to informed participants.
About the speaker
The speaker, Besart Shyti, joined online from London. He is a Machine Learning Engineer and Research Lead working on large language models and multimodal systems, with past experience at Meta building one of the largest deep learning systems in production. He also co-founded The Machine Learning Institute.
His experience allowed him to connect theory with real deployments, giving the audience a grounded sense of how models move from research papers into products.
Hybrid format, shared focus
The event ran in hybrid mode. Participants gathered in person at the Pyramid of Tirana while Besart presented and answered questions online. The format kept the session open and interactive for people at different stages of their learning journey.
For AI Albania, supporting this event fits a core goal: building local understanding of key AI concepts and giving learners early contact with practitioners who work on large scale systems.
