22 sht 2024
AI Albania joined AI Weekend in Rovinj as a community partner, connecting regional companies with practical guidance to turn AI interest into concrete projects.

From 19 to 22 September 2024, AI Albania joined AI Weekend in Rovinj, Croatia, as a community partner. The conference, led by CroAI and held alongside the Weekend Media Festival at the Adris Old Tobacco Factory, brought together experts from large tech companies, startups, and regional teams focused on real world uses of AI in business. For AI Albania, it was a chance to connect companies from the region with clear, grounded guidance on how to move from interest in AI to concrete projects.
Event snapshot
AI Weekend 2024 took place in person in Rovinj, Croatia, from 19 to 22 September 2024, as part of Weekend.17 at the Adris Old Tobacco Factory site. Organized by CroAI in partnership with Weekend Media Festival, it gathered speakers and guests from companies such as OpenAI, Google, Meta, TikTok, as well as many younger companies working with applied AI. AI Albania joined as a community partner, helping its network access the event and linking Albanian participants into a wider Adriatic and European context.
Why AI Weekend matters for regional companies
Across Albania and the Western Balkans, many companies have moved past curiosity and are now facing practical questions.
- Where does AI make sense in our products and internal processes
- Do we build technical capacity inside the company or work with external teams
- How do we handle costs, skills, and change inside the organization
AI Weekend is structured around these questions rather than abstract forecasts. Sessions focused on how companies estimate cost and value, how they decide which workflows to support with AI tools, and how leaders avoid chasing trends without a clear business case.
For AI Albania, this connects directly with its work to support responsible AI use and talent in the region. Being a community partner meant more than a logo on a slide. It meant opening a path for Albanian founders and managers to:
- See how peers in Croatia and beyond frame their first AI projects
- Hear candid stories about projects that worked and those that did not
- Compare what is realistic for small markets with what large players attempt
The Adriatic setting added a regional flavour, but the core questions were the same ones Albanian companies ask every week.
Inside AI Weekend: from questions to decisions
The program combined keynotes, panels, and smaller sessions, along with informal meetings where many of the most direct conversations took place. Throughout, a few themes kept returning.
Strategies for using AI in business
How to identify priority use cases, decide which problems are worth tackling first, and avoid scattering limited resources across too many pilots.
In house teams versus external partners
When it makes sense to hire and train a dedicated AI group, and when a company can move faster by working with trusted providers while still keeping knowledge in house.
Budget and process planning
How to think about costs over time, from early experiments to systems that support daily work. How to adapt internal processes so that AI tools do not sit unused after a launch.
Speakers and participants shared examples from sectors such as finance, retail, media, and software. The thread that linked them was simple. AI is useful when it helps a company serve customers better, make clearer decisions, or reduce friction in operations. Everything else is decoration.
As community partner, AI Albania used the conference to listen carefully to what business leaders worry about most. Those worries are often similar across borders.
- Fear of making the wrong first move
- Uncertainty about legal and ethical expectations
- Concern that competitors are moving faster, even when details are vague
The event did not promise easy answers. It offered frameworks, examples, and contacts that help turn vague interest into specific decisions.
What comes next
For AI Albania, AI Weekend in Rovinj offered both content and connections. Insights from the conference feed into future workshops, advisory sessions, and resources for Albanian companies that want to use AI in a careful and strategic way. Contacts made in Rovinj can grow into joint events, expert exchanges, or pilot projects that link Croatian and Albanian teams.
